Alright…..to get the blog started off in a fun way I decided to join the Fall 2023 ORC.
What is it you say? The One Room Challenge
The One Room Challenge is a renovation project that spans 8 weeks, with designers showcasing their project along the way. Usually it starts with a mood board, and a theme as well as little projects inside the larger project and designers/DIY/builders show their renovation process weekly. They update their weekly progress on their blog, Instagram and TIkTok. And you can follow along! Fun right?? Well, at least for now I’m still excited. Soon I’ll be overwhelmed most likely but that is what my clients go through ALL THE TIME!!!

And what I’m hoping to accomplish in just 8 short weeks!
I’m going to attempt IKEA Cabinets with custom wood drawers. And above that little bench thing….some bigger and smaller cabinets, just couldn’t figure out how to do that in the IKEA planner. It’s tricky, but worth it if you put in the time.
Here’s my plan! Week 1 sounds insane- BTW.
Week 1: Mood board BUT BASICALLY MOVE!!!!! Get rid of stuff, huge sale(I may or may not have gotten a jump on this!) Donate paint to Sherwin Williams…..Did you know they take paint back for FREE????? Order cabinets and pick up wood for drawers-figure out how to build these.
I’ve REALLY thought about week 1……not too much thought has gone into the subsequent weeks…..
Week 2: Take EVERYTHING OUT OF THE GARAGE! Organize it to SELL, DONATE OR TRASH. I’ll figure out what to do with these piles later……Demo, and if I’m feeling totally insane, get the kids to help prime & paint. Patch walls, prime & PAINT……
Week 3: .BUILD THE CABINET BOXES!!!! I’m Hacking these IKEA cabinets……could be good, could be bad…..
Week 4: BUILD DRAWERS, I’ve never done this before but I’ve watched a ton of videos and feel confident about figuring it out. Only 16 to build, what could go wrong?
Week 5: DIY GIANT WOOD PEGBOARD- so excited about this. Not 100% sure it will be that practical, but it’s gonna be cute.
Week 6: Figure out doors, am I building or buying these?????? I’ll probably buy if they have the Havstorp in stock, if NOT, I may build….if my hands haven’t fallen off.
Week 7: Lighting- Haven’t thought about this one bit…..but I will. Any ideas? I’d LOVE to hear them. Finishing touches…..I’m sure there will be many.
Week 8: FINAL REVEAL + maybe a BONUS item
PHEW……That sounds like a lot! Let’s see how it goes over the next few weeks. I’d love to see your support! Hopefully at the end my garage will feel more like a workspace than a dumping ground. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not planning on parking a car in here, just a bit more less HOARDERY.
